When should an Acoustic Barrier be installed for insulation?

The acoustic barrier for insulation aims to reduce noise pollution near highways or railways and in urban areas. This method is little explored in Brazil compared to other first world countries. The soundproofing barrier works as a physical obstacle that prevents noise from reaching the receiver, bringing protection to neighbors in affected areas from excessive noise.

There are two types: the acoustic barrier for isolation and the acoustic barrier for absorption, which minimizes the reflection of sound waves. Only an expert can classify the ideal type to be applied in each case.

There are several materials that can be used in acoustic barriers.

Metal sheets are the most flexible, as they serve both for insulation and absorption. They are widely used on railways and, despite being versatile, they are not durable and require constant maintenance.

Concrete panels serve as an insulation and absorption barrier, in addition to being great for protection. This type of barrier has greater durability and is extremely resistant, with low maintenance at a moderate cost.

Polycarbonate is less popular for this purpose. It is a great insulator and allows interaction with the landscape like glass, but it has a high cost. The glass, in order to be applied, needs to be of the safety glass type, because its barrier is transparent for birds and has light reflections, which can cause accidents in case of highways.

The wooden barriers must comply with the NBR 14313 standard. They are sustainable and widely used in industries within rural preservation environments, they are resistant to organic pests, unity and high temperatures.

Natural barriers are made up of vegetation combined with the landscape. Its sound reduction is minimal, requiring 50 meters of vegetation for a reduction of 2 decibels, so it is unfeasible in most cases.

ArBomTec has acoustic barriers for isolation aimed at industries, equipment and production areas. All projects are customized according to the needs of each client. Contact us for a quote.
